Who's Behind REDI? Meet Sherrill Corbett, REDI Board Member

Behind REDI (Redmond Economic Development, Inc.) are community leaders who volunteer their time and effort to play a vital role in the organization's strength and success. Meet REDI Board Member, Sherrill Corbett, Partner with Tonkon Torp LLP.

Central Oregon has a reputation for attracting growing businesses and entrepreneurs. As local communities and industries continue to thrive in the high desert, sometimes you need a legal expert in your corner to help with emerging issues.

Tonkon Torp LLP is a full-service business law firm established in 1974. “Our service philosophy is to think like a business, so our clients don’t have to think like a lawyer,” says Sherrill. “When it comes to running a business, legal issues should take a back seat to strategic solutions.”

While the main office of 90 attorneys is based out of the Portland area, Tonkon has a presence in Central Oregon with two lawyers living and working here full-time. Sherrill’s practice is focused on helping clients launch, buy, and sell their businesses, as well as on structuring joint ventures, bank financings, and private placements.

“I especially enjoy working with women-owned or led businesses,” she says. “It’s been exciting to see new startup clients open their businesses in Central Oregon, as well as to see so many successful business transactions involving selling and buying companies in the area.”

As Sherrill points out, Central Oregon is growing rapidly – as businesses continue to thrive in the area, their need for sophisticated legal counsel has increased. Tonkon Torp LLP offers full-service, expert support for businesses and their legal needs – from labor and employment issues, to tax matters, estate planning, business formation and exits, litigation, and employment-based immigration.

One of Sherrill’s superpowers is making “legalese” easy to understand. “When we work with clients, we prioritize responsive service, pragmatic and creative thinking, straight talk, and, when appropriate, humor,” she says. “No matter the size or complexity of a business, we bring the right people, the right questions, and the right counsel to every client relationship.”

After attending the Made in Redmond Tour, Sherrill knew she wanted to be a part of Redmond Economic Development, Inc. to help “attract and retain businesses in the region.” She says it is one of her favorite events because it spotlights the ingenuity and output of Redmond businesses.

Above all, Sherrill and her colleagues at Tonkon Torp LLP strive to provide advice and advocacy that is personal, business-focused, and right-sized for every business’ unique needs.
