Reclaiming the "Front Door" of Downtown

Prior to General Duffy’s opening in March 2019, the properties at 404 SW Forest Avenue and 413 SW Glacier Avenue presented a serious socio-economic drain on the district. Located at the southern entrance to 5th Street off Highway 97, essentially the "front door" for locals and visitors entering Redmond, the area was anchored by a strip club and a severely deteriorated residential structure that had become associated with drug-related activity.

Instead of viewing the location as a risk, the Robertson family recognized a critical atmospheric billboard for the city. In a unique collaboration with several local fire departments, the team hosted a series of live "learn to burn" training exercises to safely demolish the unsalvageable residential structure, clearing the way for modern, purpose-driven redevelopment.

Where illicit activity once detracted from nearby investment, the property was transformed into a family-friendly destination featuring an expansive outdoor patio, food truck pod, taphouse, and indoor event spaces.

A Catalyst for Surrounding Investment

The arrival of General Duffy’s triggered a domino effect of private capital and civic development across downtown Redmond. By demonstrating that locals and tourists alike were eager to gather downtown, the venue proved the commercial viability of surrounding blocks.

Key post-2019 development projects in the immediate vicinity include:

• Local Paws (435 SW Evergreen Ave): Incubated as a mobile vendor at General Duffy's in 2020 before expanding into a permanent brick-and-mortar storefront down the street in 2022.
• Sister’s Smokehouse & Blacksmith Public House (308 SW Evergreen Ave): Transformed a former vacant fabrication shop into a lively food and beverage venue in 2022.
• Summit Bank (538 SW Highland Ave): Brought expanded commercial banking infrastructure to the core district in 2024.
• Nova Apartments (629 SW 5th St): A 24-unit residential complex replacing former low-density structures in 2025.
• Natural Grocers (732 SW 6th St): Re-tenanting a former retail building to bring healthy grocery options downtown. – Coming soon!

With General Duffy's Waterhole operating from 11:00 AM to 9:00 PM and The Annex Sports Bar running from 4:00 PM to 2:00 AM, the Robertson family keeps their doors open 20 hours a day, seven days a week.

That constant footprint allows them to host over 200 local and regional events each year, drawing roughly 85,000 guests annually. The venue seamlessly scales from intimate local gatherings such as birthday parties, corporate meetings, car and motorcycle shows, and community vendor markets, to large-scale outdoor concerts capable of accommodating up to 3,000 attendees for national touring acts.
