Redmond’s Trades Industry Spotlight: Fuel Safe Systems
Who is Fuel Safe Systems?
One of the reasons Redmond’s economy is thriving is its diverse industry mix of traded sector businesses – companies that sell their products outside of the region bringing wealth and new investment into the community. For over 35 years, Veteran-owned and operated, Fuel Safe Systems has been one of Redmond’s leading mid-sizeAS9100 Certified Manufacturers helping employ over 60 Central Oregon workers. At the recent Made In Redmond Tour, a few of Redmond’s citizens were lucky to see firsthand how Fuel Safe Systems is quietly and confidently making an impact on Redmond’s economic growth.
Fuel Safe Systems designs and manufactures specialty fuel and fluid containment systems used in motorsports, aerospace, defense, oil and gas, and industrial markets. Its core technology includes safety fuel bladders for vehicles and aircraft, and ultra-lightweight fuel containment systems for products such as unmanned aircraft and autonomous vehicles. Fuel Safe’s customers range from race teams and vehicle builders to aerospace and defense organizations. Fuel Safe's products are designed to help safely contain fuel and other fluids in the event of a crash or other serious incidents, helping protect people, equipment, and critical operations.
According to Bill Hare, Owner and Operator of Fuel Safe Systems, the most exciting thing happening in the fuel cell industry is the growth of uncrewed systems. Lightweight, reliable fuel containment is critical in many drone, counter-drone, and specialty vehicle applications. Hare also noted how his team is embracing new technologies resulting in more efficient production of certified quality systems from product concept to completion.
Why Choose Redmond for Business?
There are many reasons Fuel Safe Systems chose Redmond to operate, with the most obvious being the Central Oregon lifestyle. Other main factors giving Redmond high consideration were its business-friendly atmosphere, readily available industrial land, lower cost of living relative to other local communities, and access to an extensive pool of employees from around the region. “Fuel Safe is proud to call Redmond our home”, said Hare. “Being in Redmond has allowed us to grow in a community that supports manufacturing, workforce development, and long-term business investment.”
Business Collaboration with REDI
Since 2006, Fuel Safe Systems has connected with REDI as a business resource throughout the company’s growth and expansion. Hare noted the importance of having a one stop resource to go to when he needed assistance and advocacy for his business growth noting that REDI was instrumental in finding a suitable location, recommending key partners in the design and construction of its facility and has provided support in growing its workforce as the company has expanded into new markets.
“We look forward to continuing our expansion, building our employee base and ensuring that we remain the recognized leader in high-tech fuel and fluid containment systems, and we’re hiring,” said Hare. “Access to regional partners, local talent, and organizations like REDI has helped us continue building a company that serves customers across highly specialized industries while remaining rooted in Central Oregon.”
Companies like Fuel Safe Systems are the backbone of Redmond’s sustainable and diversified industry mix. This is only one example of how REDI is here to help businesses expand, support new business recruitment, advocate for business challenges and continue to build a thriving and resilient community.
